Rollin’ into 2021

I could write an entire storybook over the year 2020. And not only on the events that happened to the world or our country, but what happened with me. The journey of a very hard, mentally challenging, and life-changing year. And above all the sorrows and blocks 2020 threw at me, Rollerskate to Liberate was able to blossom. While we’re still in the very early stages, we’re not letting that stop us from making real change and big moves.

Since our start in August 2020 we:

  1. Raised $3,169 at our first roll-a-thon, 100% of funds donated to Polaris Project

  2. Claimed 501(c)(3) status as a legitimate nonprofit organization

  3. Began planning and development for the launch of the RS2L Learning Hub in early 2021

In 2021 we will:

  1. Host a community roll-a-thon to support local children’s shelters and promote local businesses in Elkhart County, Indiana

  2. Raise $1000 for survivor-led organizations and programs

  3. Launch kids, teens, and adult curriculum on how to be a better activist and fight against human trafficking

We’re building a generation of activists to create a world where no one is bought, sold, or exploited. We envision a world where every individual is actively fighting to end exploitation. A world where healthy relationships are the norm we see in the media, in our schools, and in our homes with each other.

I encourage you this year, to set goals and expectations for yourself to better the community you live in. So, how do we set goals that help ourselves and others? First, we must ask ourselves, how does this help me. Then ask, how does this, or how can this goal, help others?

Here are a few resolution examples:

  1. Reach out to a friend or family member each week and focus on building healthy relationships

  2. Learn a new skill that will make a difference to others. Like learning ASL to better communicate with the deaf community or dedicating an hour each week to volunteer

  3. Cutting unhealthy habits that exploit others. Try committing to buying fair trade products, or cutting your consumption of porn, as millions of videos online are uploaded without any type of consent.

Thank you for supporting our beginning in 2020. I hope and pray for your continued support in 2021 and beyond. Not for me, but for a better world and future.
