The Pandemic

A poem by Jaimee Johnson, Lived Experience Expert of Domestic Sex Trafficking

Isolation

Fear

Confusion

Never knowing what tomorrow holds

Wondering day to day if today will be the last

Watching life pass by from behind a wall

Sickness of the

Body

But also of the

Mind & Soul

There’s no telling when your time to fall truly is

This is the pandemic

Minds going crazy, wondering if today will be your last

Will you ever see your family again?

What about the kids?

Will things ever go back to the way they were before this?

Will you ever feel normal again?

This is the pandemic

Traumatized by the fear

Anxious for the future

Stuck in the stillness forced upon you

Wondering what’s next

Fearing whats to come

Wishing for what was

This is the pandemic

No where to turn

Because it seems no one cares

Rightfully so, as they are trying to survive too

Gasping for air

Wishing the days would stop passing while nothing changes

Feeling the aches in your body

Praying they would just stop

Trying to push the heaviness off your chest and stomach

Just wanting a full breath of fresh air

Trembling from the shakes

just wanting your body back

This is the pandemic

Although it sounds like this is in regards to the 2020 pandemic

It seems that’s what it would be

This is the pandemic of sex trafficking and trauma

See we been living with it since way before covid 19
